The double standard against cross-sectional mediation

I argue that if we are against cross-sectional mediation, then we are against any cross-sectional prediction analyses (e.g., main effect and moderation); however, this would impede scientific progress. Instead, cross-sectional prediction analyses, including cross-sectional mediation, should be accepted if they offer meaningful theoretical contributions.
